Pratiquez de l'extérieur à l'intérieur

commençant le Samedi 29 septembre 2018 à 09:30

This workshop is taught in English

Due to her much appreciated workshops in 2015 and 2016, Joan returns to deconstruct various postures, breaking them down to their essential points with a focus on alignment to avoid common mistakes, steer clear of injury, promote strength, and increase energy. This workshop is beneficial for all regardless of the style one practices.

All levels welcome!

Day/Time Activity

Unlocking the Psoas

The psoas muscle is the deepest muscle in our bodies. It lifts the leg when the upper body is fixed and brings the trunk to the legs when the legs are fixed. This core-stabilizing muscle that runs from our trunk to the hip bone affects mobility, structural balance, joint function, flexibility, and much more. In addition to its function to help keep the body upright and moving, it affects two of our most vital systems: digestion and breath.

In this workshop, you will learn where your psoas is and how to unlock this deep muscle creating numerous benefits throughout your body. There will be a brief anatomy lesson learning the psychological benefits of releasing this muscle before a deep two-hour practice opening the abdominal region and releasing the lower back and hips. Open to all levels.

For those of you working with injuries, the tools gained in this workshop will help!

Opening our Side Body

Side-bending postures in our asana practice can be extremely effective to open up the diaphragm, hips, and shoulders. By lengthening the rib cage, side-bending can increase our energy level and allow us to feel invigorated and light. This practice will include exploring lateral bending postures and then end with pranayama to draw us inward and to explore our light within!

Leg work - Inner and Outer Spiral

The inner and outer thighs are a gateway into our pelvic floor and deep core stability. There will be a discussion on how to use our legs and feet to gain awareness of activating the pelvic floor muscles which are deep and intricate muscles that help us resist gravity and can leave us feeling light and buoyant. We will break down standing postures that activate these muscles and play with balancing postures to deepen our awareness of our center. This practice will end with an entrance into lotus and a seated meditation.

Restorative Love

Restorative poses bring about a rest and relaxation response in our nervous system to heal deeply. Many of us are always on the go and stressed out, and because of it, experience anxiety, sleep disorders, injury, and sickness. Restorative poses bring the body into a deep sense of healing. Our nervous system calms down and our natural state of energy returns with improved sleep, inspiration, health, digestion and increased vitality. You will need an eye pillow and a desire to lay down and rest! All levels welcome!
