Introduction to Yoga

This 90-minute introductory course takes you through the basics of yoga postures, yogic breathing techniques, guided relaxation and meditation with 10 minutes focused on a different topic of yoga philosophy each week so that you have a foundational understanding that supports your practice.

The physical practice includes the sun salutation as well as inversions, forward bending, backward bending, side bending, spinal rotation and balancing poses for a healthy spine and nervous system.

Practice full yogic breathing and other breathing exercises that have a calming and balancing effect on the mind.

In terms of philosophy, the course covers the basic tenets of hatha yoga, kundalini, raja yoga, karma yoga, bhakti yoga, and jnana yoga.

While best to start at the beginning of the term, you can join at any time. This practice is suitable for all, but if you have any pre-existing conditions, please contact Fredric.
