Ashtanga Mysore-style Class (2 hr)

Wednesday 04 september 10:00 - 12:00

This is a Mysore-style class which means that each student knows and practices the sequence of postures at his/her own rhythm. This gives more freedom to the student and also frees the teacher to circulate throughout the room and take the time to give specific hands-on adjustments.

As the course lasts 2 hours, there is time for bandha instruction and practice in the beginning and pranayama, meditation and relaxation at the end of class.

Download the illustrated primary and intermediate sequences.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations are subject to a 5-Euro administration fee. Payment is refundable (less administration fee) if cancellation is done no later than August 30th. If you cancel after August 30th, we would give you a credit for a summer weekly class or you may only be refunded if you are able to find a replacement for your place.

Style: Ashtanga Mysore-style

This course is for you if you have some basic knowledge of Ashtanga primary or secondary series, and if you wish to explore technique and postures in more depth, without the constraint of conforming to the group rhythm. Unlike a "led" class where the teacher sets the rhythm for the whole group, the Mysore-style format allows you to find your own pace of practice and depth of exploration. In this format, the teacher focuses on one-on-one guidance regarding any aspect of the technique, posture or adjustments. This detailed exploration greatly increases your confidence in the practice and allows you to develop your self-practice at home. As the course lasts 2 hours, there is enough time for asana and group pranayama, meditation and relaxation. For the asana section, you can download and bring the illustrated primary and intermediate sequences of Ashtanga yoga to class. Go to the Ashtanga Mysore-style page.

Teacher: Surya Fackelmann

Surya Fackelmann Surya was first exposed to yoga when her mother practiced it while pregnant. She practiced yoga as a child and, after some years of absence, took up a daily yoga practice in 2011. Since 2013, she practices Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga on a daily basis. Surya has experienced the obvious benefits of a dedicated Ashtanga practice - improved strength and flexibility. She also deeply values the more subtle benefits, including inner balance and a calm strength of body and mind - on and off the mat. Surya believes that Ashtanga should be practiced with sincerity, humor and joy. She completed her 200h-teacher training (TT) at Ashtanga Yoga Paris and is near the end of an additional 300h-TT at the same school. Surya is grateful to have learned about the 8 limbs of Ashtanga from senior teachers. She dedicated time to study with Lino Miele and Sharmila Desai in India. Happy to be able to share her knowledge and experience with kindness, clarity and utmost respect for students and their background, she looks forward to being a life-long student herself.
