Introduction to Yin Yoga (2 hr)

starts Sunday 25 september 2022 at 11:00

This program is taught in English.

Programme
11:00-13:00

Yin Yoga is a gentle but deep practice that uses the classic postures of Indian Yoga with a different approach, based on energetic and physiological knowledge imported from traditional Chinese medicine and Taoist Yin Yoga. The idea of Yin represents stillness and Yang represents movement. With Yin Yoga, the objective is therefore to slow down and have a meditative approach to rest the body and regenerate it in depth.

During the practice, we will use abdominal breathing and the meridians of the body. Each meridian circulates energy to different organs and body areas. With the breath, we circulate the energy along the meridians which, if well-nourished, support our physical and mental well-being.

During Yin Yoga sessions, we will use seated or lying postures most of the time and apply light pressure on the joints while relaxing the muscles around them to reach deep connective tissues surrounding the bones. Being particularly attentive to the necessary adjustments, we will improve the flexibility of the joints while respecting the natural range-of-motion for more comfort and safety.

No previous yin yoga is necessary. Everybody is welcome.

Style: Yin Yoga

Yin yoga is a modern synthesis of Tao Yin and hatha yoga developed by Paul Grilley and Sarah Powers. In Yin yoga, floor postures are held for a long duration (3-5 minutes). On a physical level, it helps to increase the suppleness in the joints within our natural range of motion. While staying in the positions, we apply gentle pressure on the joints and relax the muscles around them. This way we affect the deep connective tissues and initiate the natural repair mechanism of the body. Energetically, Yin Yoga helps opening the body’s meridian system. It increases our vitality and harmonizes the energetic activity of the body. Go to the Yin yoga page.
