Kashmir Shaivism is an ancient Indian yogic philosophy and theology. Originating in southern India, it became associated with Kashmir through one of its most prominent scholars Abhinavagupta who lived in Kashmir around 1000 AD. The most important texts of the system are the Shiva Sutras of Vasugupta, the Spanda Karika, and the Vijñāna Bhairava Tantra.

It went underground for centuries and re-emerged in the 20th century through Swami Lakshmanjoo who revived its teachings. André Riehl studied with one of his disciples in India, Kasmiri Babu.
